The Teams
The sport of synchronized swimming is centered around the team competition. A synchronized swimming team has anywhere from 4 to 8 swimmers. Rocky Mountain Splash currently has 4 different teams swimming in various age categories. Each team is given a color to help the coaches distinguish each team. With every new season, new teams are organized based on the swimmers' ages, skill levels, and other criteria.

Competitive Structure

Competitions involving the Rocky Mountain Splash are sanctioned by U.S. Synchronized Swimming, Inc. (USSSI). Swimmers may compete in solos, duets, trios, or teams of up to eight members. Age groups used for competition are: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 & 18-19. The Rocky Mountain Splash competes at the following levels:

  • Novice - All competitors swim to a pre-determined routine, and participate in non-qualifying meets only.
  • Intermediate - Swimmers perform technical routines with required elements.
  • Age Group - Competition includes technical and free routines, depending on the age of the swimmers. The top three places in each event can qualify to continue to the next level, culminating in the National Age Group Championships for ages 11 and up.
  • Senior - Swimmers must be at least age 15. Eligibility requirements vary depending on the meet, but often involve obtaining a required minimum score for each event
